Amanda Bowdoin is not only a CTVI, but a mother of JD Bowdoin who was born with CHARGE Syndrome. She will take you on her journey over the past 9 1/2 years of dealing with the medical, emotional and physical strength of having a child with CHARGE Syndrome. She will also discuss the research she did and findings on CHARGE Syndrome. She will talk about medical, nursing, coming home, home life and educational needs and supports.

Diving Into the ECC...Strategies and Activities for the 9 Areas

Participants will understand the nine areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum for younger and older students as well as for infants and toddlers. Participants will learn how to incorporate "free on quota" products from American Printing House for the Blind (APH) with the ECC. Several activities and goals will be presented demonstrating how the ECC and APH can help children who are visually impaired understand skills, concepts addressed in the core and expanded core curriculum.

The Visual Impairment Scale of Service Intensity of Texas (VISSIT) was developed to guide itinerant TVIs in determining the type and amount of service to recommend. This presentation will detail the purpose of the scale, demonstrate its use, and report the findings of its field testing and initial validation study.

Come and learn more about Bookshare, a key source of Accessible Instructional Materials (AIM), for persons with print disabilities. Persons with visual impairments can access textbooks, required school reading, and pleasure reading books through a variety of hardware and software, including assistive technology devices. Bookshare also offers free assistive technology software for accessible digital reading. Bookshare is the world’s largest online library of accessible eBooks for readers with print disabilities.
